INFUSION OF SAMURAI INTO BALLOON ART/ SYAN

The man on the stage was in a 'hakama' costume.
He took a sword from his belt.
No, it was not a sword!
It was a sword-balloon!



Those sword-like balloons were twisted and merged to become flowers, dolls and birds.
This time, Syan's balloon-art pieces had Asian twist: a guardian lion mask for a 'shishimai' lion dance, a heavenly maiden and phoenix.

Syan started this Japanese-style performance in 2013, applying his knowledge of Japanese 'nou' art in his movements.



"I make the story for my performance first, then create balloon pieces as a tool for the story", he said.
